Notable Performers From The Grayson New Year’s Classic

By Benji Oxman

2025 6’8 PF Bryson Tiller (Pace Academy)

I got the chance to see Bryson twice this week and he was equally impressive in both outings. Against South Gwinnett, Bryson had nearly a double-double with 14 points & 9 rebounds. Bryson is extremely impressive physically for a freshman. He’s not a scrawny 6’8, Bryson is already fairly filled out. Tiller has a nose for the ball on the glass to pair with his athleticism. Bryson is more than capable of grabbing the rebound and starting the break himself. He also has smooth shooting mechanics and shoots it with confidence. Bryson already has early offers from GT, Auburn, Xavier & Indiana but expect that list to grow along with his name appearing in national rankings very soon.

2023 6’1 PG Brandon Rechsteiner (Etowah)

Brandon was the catalyst in Etowah’s win over Cumberland Christian as he recorded 21 points, 8 assists & 6 rebounds. Brandon has a really high IQ and makes the right read in ball screen situations nearly every time. Great shot mechanics & shoots the 3 efficiently. He’s capable of getting hot from 3 and go on impressive shooting streaks like he did on Saturday knocking down 5 3s in the first half. Also, he’s lightning fast and quick with the ball in his hands. Rechsteiner currently has offers from: Mercer, Texas State, Jacksonville State & Kennesaw State. I except more southeast D1s will jump into his recruitment this spring/summer.

2022 6’0 G Jonah Hamilton (Etowah)

Jonah Hamilton also played a huge part in Etowah’s victory as he knocked down 7 3s as part of his 25 points. Jonah is always shot ready on the perimeter and when he gets the ball he doesn’t need much time or space to get his shot off with his quick release. Jonah is one of the better available shooters left in Georgia’s 2022 class and deserves some college attention.

2023 6’4 W Devin Long (Providence Christian)

Providence Christian was outmatched by an overall more athletic Osborne team but Devin Long had some impressive moments. Devin is 6’4, athletic, crashes the offensive & defensive glass and shoots it well from 3. When Devin is in attack mode and looking for his shot he’s a really good player. Devin Long will be an intriguing prospect to keep an eye going into the summer.

2023 6’2 G David Thomas (Eagle’s Landing)

David Thomas finished with 19 points and 4 rebounds in Eagle’s Landing heartbreaking OT loss to North Gwinnett. Thomas has a knack for scoring the ball. He can score off the catch or bounce from all 3 levels. He’s physical in the paint and able to finish through traffic. On the perimeter he’s at his best shooting off the dribble. Pair all that skill with his impressive athleticism and it makes him one of the top guards in the state. David currently holds offers from: LSU, Mercer, Tennessee Tech, Presbyterian, Western Carolina, Troy & Alabama State.

2022 6’5 W Dylan Gary (North Gwinnett)

Dylan finished with 18 points in North Gwinnett’s thrilling win over Eagle’s Landing. Dylan is a two-sport athlete who is deserving of some more college attention on the basketball court.  Although Dylan has an unorthodox release he has proven he’s an efficient 3-point shooter this entire summer & HS season. He can also play above the rim in space and has a good basketball IQ. Dylan doesn’t force too many things on the court. He takes in rhythm shots, hits his open teammates & defends.
